Silverstone 500 FP2: Barwell find late pace as Mercedes cars impress

Adam Balon and Sandy Mitchell have topped the timesheets in the final practice session of the Silverstone 500 weekend ahead of a three-hour race tomorrow afternoon, setting the fastest British GT lap time at Silverstone.

They found some pace late on to beat the #15 Ram Racing Mercedes of Jamie Caroline and John Ferguson, who were 1.389 seconds behind. Sam and Richard Neary in the #8 Team Abba Racing Mercedes were a further 0.197 seconds back.

Down in the GT4 class, Steller Motorsport found some late pace to go fastest in their class ahead of the #61 Academy Motorsport Ford Mustang.

After twenty minutes had passed in the session, there were only 0.003 seconds separating the #18 WPI Motorsport Lamborghini and the #5 Greystone GT McLaren with Micahel Igoe and Stewart Proctor behind the wheel of their respective cars.

In the GT4 class, the #61 Ford Mustang of Academy Motorsport was leading, with Matt Cowley in control of the car while Marco Signoretti waited for his turn in the garage.

Will Tregurtha set a lap time of 1:59.657 which was enough to place his #3 Assetto Motorsport Bentley at the top of the timesheets at the halfway point, with the #61 Academy Motorsport Ford Mustang still leading the GT4 class.

Heading into the final fifteen minutes of the session, it was the #15 Ram Racing Mercedes that remained out front ahead of the #6 Ram Racing Mercedes. Team Rocket RJN’s James Kell took the #2 car to third on the leaderboard as the session entered its final quarter. Optimum Motorsport also had a strong session, with just under half a second separating them and the leaders as the session headed towards a conclusion.
