It’s a new year and a new season for Formula E and they are heading to Mexico for the opening round of season nine
The start of the new season sees the racing debut of the new Gen3 car for this season. This is the fastest, lightest, most powerful and most efficient electric single-seater, as well as the most sustainable car! The teams and drivers are all set ahead of going green in Mexico.
Season nine will kick start at the extraordinary Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. It will be the first time that Mexico City has hosted the opening round of the championship.
The circuit is one of the fastest tracks on the Formula E calendar and features a variety of long and fast straights.
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit consists of 19 turns throughout the 2.63km track and part of it is used during the Mexican Formula One Grand Prix.
Last time out it was Pascal Wehrlein who came away with the top podium position but with the introduction of the Gen3 could this season see the opening round be anyone’s game?
Not only will there be the race to fuel the fans but ahead of lights out and the chequered flag there will be a performance from Grammy Award-winning DJ due NERVO and other artists in what is set to be an electric opening race of the season.
Going into the race Maximilian Guenther who races for Maserati would appear to be the favourite ahead of the new season after a dominating display in testing.
Guenther came out top of the time sheets in five of the seven sessions and set the fastest time of the test at a staggering 1:25.127 which is by far quicker than anything set in the Gen2 era.
At the back of the time sheets for testing was Sergio Sette Camara for NIO who finished +1.466 behind Gunther.
