It’s round five of the Formula E season, and we are heading to a brand new venue in South Africa for this weekend’s race.
The race is taking place in Cape Town and is the first E-Prix to be held in sub-Saharan Africa. Not only is set to be a fast-paced race as the drivers compete around the 2.921km circuit, but some amazing scenery surrounds the track, with the stunning Table Mountain providing the main backdrop of the weekend’s racing.
Heading into round five, Pascal Wehrlein is looking to continue to increase his lead in the driver’s championship from his main title rival Jake Dennis, who currently sits 18 points behind him in the driver’s standings.
The Porsche driver is also looking for win number three of the season as they enter Cape Town, as he hopes to make it back on the podium after just coming up short last time out in India.
Dennis is also hoping for a comeback, after finishing out of the points and off the podium when he finished in 16th in Hyderabad in round four. The 16th-place finish was a slight setback in Dennis’ championship campaign.
As it stands, Porsche are holding the top spot of the constructor’s championship, and are hoping to continue this for the rest of the season as they sit with 101 points four rounds in. However, they are just 23 points clear of Andretti so it’s all still to play for as the teams take to the track in Cape Town.
Robin Frijns is out for the Cape Town E-Prix after he sustained a hand fracture during last month’s Mexico City race. It is South African native Kelvin van der Linde who is set to race in his home country.
Free Practice 1 takes place on Friday afternoon, with a 2:55 pm start in the UK.
The main race day is Saturday, with Free Practice 2 early in the morning, at 7:05 am.
Qualifying follows at 9:40 am, with the race itself at 2:03 am.
Coverage is available on Channel 4 Sport Youtube, while we will also have coverage both here on our website and social media channels.
